Knight Rider Season 1 DVD Review

The legend has been rebooted for the first and only season of Knight Rider, released on DVD Tuesday containing all 16 episodes of its entirely. Extras includes audio commentary on the February 2008 pilot with executive producer David Bartis, and stars Justin Bruening (All My Children) & Deanna Russo (The Young & The Restless), the legacy of the series, and much more.
The mantle of “one man can make a difference” has been passed on to Mike Tracuer (Bruening), the son of original Knight Rider Michael Knight (David Hasselhoff, who makes a cameo in the pilot). A former Army Ranger, he now drives the Knight Industries Three Thousand (voiced by Val Kilmer): a GT500KR Mustang loaded with nanobot and has the ability to transform himself into any vehicle. Helping Mike is Sarah Graiman, his friend and love interest whose father (Bruce Davison) was one of the people that created KITT and its predecessor. Taking up the namesake of his father, Mike and KITT hit the road to justice.
When the new Knight Rider aired last fall, the series was set apart from its original. The first 13 episodes dealt with two arcs: Mike’s mysterious past and KITT’s antithesis KARR. In the beginning, Mike and KITT were under the employ of Knight Industries, a law enforcement and government agency that dealt with international espionage, spies, and foreign intrigue. Like the short-lived syndicated Team Knight Rider (1997-98), the writers took this show way too seriously because the original Knight Rider had humor and heart, for it was about three things:
1. A young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, the powerless in a world of criminals who operate above the law
Michael Knight was definitely a modern-day knight — a hero that helps those the law can’t or won’t help against the powerful and corrupt. He fights for honor and justice on behalf of the people.
2. A lone crusader into a dangerous world … the world of the Knight Rider
In Knight Rider, it’s simple — there is good and there is evil. Michael and KITT were the Lone Ranger and Tonto of science fiction and fantasy: traveling from town to town righting injustice for the greater and common good.
3. One man can make a difference
Though the Foundation for Law & Government (FLAG) had the symbol on its semi, Michael Knight represented it: the white knight that always does what is right.
But by the time the writers decided to switched gears and go old school, it was too late. Despite improving over the last four episodes — including the rebirth of FLAG at the end — NBC pulled the brakes on Knight Rider
and cancel it this spring.

With the help of the lab’s research assistant, Billy (Paul Campbell) learns some information about the serum that will help Mike when he takes on the now powerful thief. Meanwhile, Sarah (Deanna Russo) is overwhelmed with her new duties and quickly learns how much work it will take to reinstitute the Foundataion for Law and Government. Smith Cho stars. Kevin Alejandro and Mini Anden guest star.

Knight Rider S1 E16: Knight and the City
By · CommentsWhen Mike heads out of town for some R & R, he decides to look up an old friend, Sonny. When he arrives at the his bar, Mike notices that things have changed and is surprised to find out that Sonny died and his daughter, Julie is running things. Mike agrees to stay and help her put things back into shape, which becomes challenging when he discovers someone is trying to force her out.
After learning of Sonny’s death in a car accident, Mike is pleased to hear that his daughter Julie is now running the bar. He offers to lend a hand in order to bring the bar back to its original glory. Meanwhile, Mike suspects a foul play when he hears of the recent fires at the bar and discovers that someone has secretly being trying to get Julie to sell the place.

Mike investigates a case of a plane crash and discovers that the crash was faked. The plane had been carrying a federal witness, a 10 year old boy who witnessed the killing of his father. When Mike tries to help the DEA agent investigating the case, he ends up getting arrested. Mike realizes that it is up to him to find the missing witness before he is killed. Meanwhile, Sarah tries to secure the future and independence of the SSC.

Knight Rider 1.14 Fight Knight

A bunch of clips are released in promotion of “Knight Rider” February 4 episode “Fight Knight”. In the episode, Michael is forced to get involved in an underground fight competition in order to investigate the death of a sergeant.
Mike’s old Army friend recruits his help to investigate the suspicious death of a tough-as-nails drill sergeant Jack Burber (guest star Tiki Barber, “Today”). Mike learns that the drill sergeant was participating in an underground fight club for military veterans for extra money. In order to find out what really happened, Mike has to infiltrate the fight club and try not to get himself killed in the ring.
The first clip shows Michael examining the body of the Drill Sergeant while the second is on Michael learning about the underground fight club. Michael is paired to a woman in the fight in clip three and four.

Knight Rider 1.13 Exit Light, Enter Knight

When Mike tries to stop a bank robbery things go badly and he ends up being a hostage himself. Mike figures out that the robbers have more on their mind than grab the money and run. They are overly interested in one of the hostages and her husband’s safety deposit box. Mike is unable to communicate with KITT and works on enlisting the hostages to help capture the robbers.

Sarah (Deanna Russo) is not coping well with her father’s death and decides to leave town. Concerned, Mike (Justin Bruening) goes looking for her and in return gets the answers he has been searching for about his past. Meanwhile, the NSA has decided to dismantle the SSC now that Dr. Graiman (Bruce Davison) is dead and they can then move forward with KITT’s nemesis KARR. With Torres’ (Yancey Arias) permission they take out KITT’s (voiced by Val Kilmer) chip that contains his personality and memories and place it in KARR (voiced by Peter Cullen). Upset by what has happened, Mike, Sarah, Billy (Paul Campbell) and Zoe (Smith Cho) devise a plan to find where KITT has been taken and get him up and running and destroy the evil KARR once and for all.

Mike (Justin Bruening) and KITT (voiced by Val Kilmer) are now transporting a bomb in the trunk of the car, but in order for it not to explode they must stay above 100 miles-per-hour. Trying to come up with a plan to disable the bomb, they load KITT onto the plane to buy some time and keep up their speed. Clinging to life, Rivai (Sydney Tamiia Poitier) manages to give a clue to find where the terrorist is hiding. Meanwhile, Sarah (Deanna Russo) receives some upsetting news about her dad.
