Knight Rider and Baywatch star David Hasselhoff is coming to New Zealand next week to promote a new ice-cream.
The international celebrity who inspired the saying “don’t hassle the Hoff” is heading to Mount Maunganui’s main beach on January 6 to promote a new Streets ice-block.
The Bay of Plenty Times reports the Mount Maunganui Surf Life Saving Club has been paid a fee to host Hasselhoff, and will offer uniformed lifeguards as security. The club plans to take advantage of the 3000-strong crowd expected by fundraising with a bucket collection.
Hasselhoff, who played lifeguard Mitch Buchannon in the 1990s phenomenon Baywatch, has a cult following in Germany for his pop career, and has appeared in pantomimes in London.

To pen down reasons why I loved to indulge in experience of watching Knight Rider episodes would require lots of efforts, as reasons are manifold.
The first reason which is pretty clear cut is presence of David Hasselhoff, the macho hunk whose car action always used to blow me away with its sheer intensity. Once he was seated on that sleek, sexy and sophisticated car called KITT, criminals used to loose hold of all the answers. In their minds, they already knew that time to accept defeat has arrived.

The legend has been rebooted for the first and only season of Knight Rider, released on DVD Tuesday containing all 16 episodes of its entirely. Extras includes audio commentary on the February 2008 pilot with executive producer David Bartis, and stars Justin Bruening (All My Children) & Deanna Russo (The Young & The Restless), the legacy of the series, and much more.
The mantle of “one man can make a difference” has been passed on to Mike Tracuer (Bruening), the son of original Knight Rider Michael Knight (David Hasselhoff, who makes a cameo in the pilot). A former Army Ranger, he now drives the Knight Industries Three Thousand (voiced by Val Kilmer): a GT500KR Mustang loaded with nanobot and has the ability to transform himself into any vehicle. Helping Mike is Sarah Graiman, his friend and love interest whose father (Bruce Davison) was one of the people that created KITT and its predecessor. Taking up the namesake of his father, Mike and KITT hit the road to justice.
When the new Knight Rider aired last fall, the series was set apart from its original. The first 13 episodes dealt with two arcs: Mike’s mysterious past and KITT’s antithesis KARR. In the beginning, Mike and KITT were under the employ of Knight Industries, a law enforcement and government agency that dealt with international espionage, spies, and foreign intrigue. Like the short-lived syndicated Team Knight Rider (1997-98), the writers took this show way too seriously because the original Knight Rider had humor and heart, for it was about three things:
1. A young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, the powerless in a world of criminals who operate above the law
Michael Knight was definitely a modern-day knight — a hero that helps those the law can’t or won’t help against the powerful and corrupt. He fights for honor and justice on behalf of the people.
2. A lone crusader into a dangerous world … the world of the Knight Rider
In Knight Rider, it’s simple — there is good and there is evil. Michael and KITT were the Lone Ranger and Tonto of science fiction and fantasy: traveling from town to town righting injustice for the greater and common good.
3. One man can make a difference
Though the Foundation for Law & Government (FLAG) had the symbol on its semi, Michael Knight represented it: the white knight that always does what is right.
But by the time the writers decided to switched gears and go old school, it was too late. Despite improving over the last four episodes — including the rebirth of FLAG at the end — NBC pulled the brakes on Knight Rider
and cancel it this spring.

After learning of Sonny’s death in a car accident, Mike is pleased to hear that his daughter Julie is now running the bar. He offers to lend a hand in order to bring the bar back to its original glory.
